Violet came into rescue 2 weeks ago and she is doing very well.  Initially, everything was scary to her, she is gaining confidence and bonds quickly.  She is so sweet and wants to be included in everything.
She will need a nice quiet home, with someone who is an experienced owner who will help her to overcome her fears.

This is a history on Violet,  we will evaluate her when she come into rescue.

Violet's owner had gotten her as a puppy, and was head over heels in love with her since day one. Violet lived with other dogs, and especially loved the children she shared a home with. Violet is very well trained to potty outside, and also knows several basic commands including sit, lay down, listens well to her name, does well with leave it, and is learning "touch". Violet is great on leash as well! Violet's owner got orders to serve a two year-long deployment, and entrusted friends with her care. When her owner was gone, Violet felt a deep sense of stress and anxiety, unfortunately. This anxiety often manifested in resource guarding behavior towards the other female dog in the home. Violet was very protective of her food dish and toys, and would bite and snap at the other female dog if she approached Violet's things. Additionally, when Violet's owner returned home from his deployment, Violet displayed severely submissive and fearful behavior towards him. She never attempted to bite, as far as we know. Here at the shelter, Violet is slowly coming out of her shell and showing her goofy and bright personality. She loves to go for walks in our big field, and even played with another dog (or at least thought about playing while she wandered the yard with him!) recently. Violet is VERY food driven, and especially loves her Kong toy, hot dogs, and working hard to get treats and please the people she trusts! Even with all of the progress Violet seems to be making, the shelter environment is extremely stressful for her.
