Ruger was reluctantly surrendered to us.  His owner has no fenced yard and Ruger was chasing deer.  The neighbors called Game and Fish who contacted him and said they would shoot the dog if caught chasing deer again.  Because he loves his dog he decided going into rescue to find a good home would be the only option.
He lived with an older female lab and a young female lab.   They were concerned that the two labs would start chasing too so they decided to let him go. They got him from his son who apparently had one litter with his registered male and female so they’ve raised him from a pup.

He’s been around kids from 2 months to 9 years old and loves them (he was very gentle with a 5 year old girl when her parents were dropping off boarding dogs to me).   He will lick their hands and loves to be pet on the head, actually anywhere!

He previously slept in the garage with 3 cats all over him so obviously he is good with cats.  May need a proper introduction to unfamiliar cats to start out with.

He is very quiet, in fact, I haven’t heard him bark since I got him yesterday morning.   Eleven dogs came into the kennel at various times today so far and he did not bark one time at the dogs or people.  If the dogs stopped to visit with him he’d sniff and greet, wag his little nub, no growl; people visit him and he takes treats very gently and loves for them to pet him.   He has no fear of people and doesn’t back off from them.   He freely trusts and goes up to them to be pet.

I asked about small dogs and farm animals and he said he’s never been around a small dog but doubted that would be a problem since he’s good with cats.  Same with small farm animals like chickens, etc - not been around them.   He doesn’t seem from what I’ve seen thus far to have a high prey drive at all.

He’s not been on a leash much but did fine with me on leash.   Other thing, he wasn’t a house dog so is not reliably house trained, but stayed in their heated garage and didn’t ever have any accidents while locked in the garage overnight.   He learned my doggie door right away and has had no accidents and goes right out to pee and poop so think that would be really easy.  He’s also done NO marking while I’ve had him either even though everything is strange to him which is a plus!

He’s been fine being confined in my kennel and has not made any attempt to jump on the fence or get out.   He’s a very cool, calm and collected boy and just seems like he rolls with the flow.  He had no problem jumping into the back of my jeep and just laid right down.
The photos don’t show but he’s a big tall boy but not skinny, just a BIG rottie.   Extremely gentle.

I can’t think of anything else other than who ever adopts this boy is getting an incredibly awesome young dog with great manners!
