Our dogs love lying on their Kuranda beds. They keep them off of cold drafty floors during the winter and provides excellent ventilation in the hot summer months.
Though they benefit greatly from Kuranda beds, we don't have enough for everyone. If you would like to donate a bed at a special wholesale price so another rescue dog can sleep in comfort, you can do so directly from the Kuranda web site.
After some time with her foster family, we have discovered that Penny should not be with cats or other small dogs or small animals.
This great dog Penny is somewhere around seven or so years of age. She is a beautiful rottweiler cross weighing in at just 39 pounds. She is spayed. Penny was brought in to a local vet clinic here in Craig to be euthanized. The owner had left town and left her dogs in the care of a house/dog sitter and there was a scuffle. Penny, a female heeler, and a male hound were all left together in an outside run with a shed as their shelter. When the owner returned home and found out about the scuffle, she immediately decided Penny needed to be destroyed.
I first met Penny a year ago when she came in for a four day stay at the dog boarding kennel where I work. While this household has multiple dogs, Penny was the only dog brought in because she was their "troublemaker" as in she was prone to escaping their insufficiently fenced yard and running around the adjoining properties. I remember Penny because she was so very attractive and because she had what I feel is a very sweet, gentle spirit. When the owner brought Penny in to be put down the other week, the clinic refused and called me. I have since spoken with the dog sitter who happens to be a young woman whom I have worked with at the kennel and whom I respect for her knowledge and experience with dogs. It is her opinion that Penny had nothing to do with the fight. The dog sitter said that when she arrived on the scene Penny was covered with some slobber on one side and was trying desperately to "disappear" in the corner of the shed. I believe that the owner really finds Penny to be a nuisance in her desire to run - even though the yard is truly not adequate for being fenced for dogs. I am also guessing that there is a level of not being well educated about the rottweiler breed and hence some ill-placed blame for any sort of ruckus. The dog sitter was adamant that Penny not be put down and was relieved to know that Penny was going to be put into my care and then placed in an appropriate forever home.
Penny is currently in a foster home here in Craig, but she wants so very much to bond with her person that I would really like to find her that forever home as quickly as possible. When we picked Penny up we discovered that she had multiple small, old scabs on her. What I think has been happening is that Penny is the one that has been getting picked on. We were not certain how much time she had spent in a house, but she is loving being in a home and hanging out with people. She is now with two larger breed dogs (one a mature male and one a seven month old female) and one very tiny (and feisty) dog and multiple cats (which I don't think she knew what they were when she first met them...). She is doing well and is learning the routine of the home. She definitely must be placed in a home with a good quality fenced yard... no electrical fences, please... and where she will be an integral part of the household, indoors as well as outdoors. She appears to be housebroken and she is also very good about being crated. She has not been on very high quality dog food, but her coat should begin to improve now that she is on a better diet. She is recently vaccinated and wormed. Before leaving the vet clinic, she was given a full examination. She is in very good health. She does have what appears to be an old injury on her left back leg. Arthritis is setting in - though Penny doesn't seem to know it yet, that is just what the vet says - and so we have her on a joint support supplement, which would be a good idea to have continued to give her the very best outcome as she ages. Other than that, she is a fun-loving little rottie cross. She loves to play and does not act like she is seven. She also loves to sit in laps and give kisses. She is lovely to look at, but her temperament is even more lovely. She just wants so much to be with someone and be loved. She is still the sweet spirit that I had the pleasure of caring for at the kennel a year ago - and now she just needs a little help in finding a home where her person is educated, responsible, prepared, and truly appreciates her for just being Penny.
Again, Penny wants very much to bond with someone so I would appreciate any help you might be able to offer. I will be able to arrange for transportation. Thank you very much for your time and reply.
