My name is Kokoro (kO-kO-dO), which means “heart or spirit” in Japanese
but everyone calls me Koko. I have lots of spirit! I’m a 5 year old Black
and Tan female Shiba Inu mix. My owners gave me to the rescue recently
because they said I was getting too aggressive. I was but I couldn’t help
it! I had been diagnosed… with a thyroid problem and the vet gave me
medicine but it made me really crabby and I didn’t feel like myself
anymore. The rescue has been taking me to the Colorado State University
Vet Hospital and they have changed the dose of meds so now I’m doing much
better. I get my blood checked regularly so they can monitor the dosage
and get it just right! Now I’m getting back to my true self.
I still get growly around food and other dogs but I’m not the total grouch
I was when my medication was messing me up. I love taking walks but I do
best if you use a Gentle Leader or Easy Walk Harness for me and I’m not
comfortable with strangers or other dogs so I don’t want to stop and say
hello!
I need a home that can give me positive structure. It stresses me out when
new people touch me and if you push me too far I will growl. I would
prefer a home with a yard, not an apartment so I won’t have to run in to
so many strangers on walks. I’d also be best in a home where I’m the only
dog. Some cats are OK but some I like to chase, and my dream home would
not have any small humans.
The rescue highly recommends anyone interested in adopting me read the
book On Talking Terms with Dogs: Calming Signals.
My adoption fee is $150.00 and includes my spay, microchip, distemper
vaccination and a private training session with Shiba Scout Rescue’s
Training Director. For more information or an adoption application,
