Description:
********UPDATE********

Samson has progressed to sitting next to his new foster mom to be petted. He sits nicely for a treat and will lay down when told. He is working on a down stay now – what wonderful progress!! He loves going for walks and will run on leash next to mom on her bike rides. He’s even learned to take walks on the treadmill – a clever boy! He gets excited to see mom when she comes home from work, too. Super kudos to Samson and his foster mom. He’s going to make some special person a great companion.

Samson was rescued by the Idaho Humane Society early in 2008. He loves all other dogs and is most secure with other dogs living with him. At first he could not tolerate a human coming near him without “hitting the deck” and pooping. He has made great, great strides thanks to his wonderful foster mom, as you can tell from his description below. I visited him this week for the first time. I was petting and loving his canine roommates and talking sweet talk and calling him softly as I did so. He would come to within 6′ of me and then hesitate. I could see in his eyes he wanted so badly to get pets and loves but he was too scared. Below is a note from his foster mom:

He is still doing good, his progress is slow. He likes to be in the same room with me now as opposed to hiding outside. However, he is still not too keen on my petting him. He will come up to lick my hand and he even did that to my son the other day as well so progress is happening. I “made” him lay beside me the other day so I could brush him. Although he didn’t like laying by me he did enjoy the strokes of the brush.

He really is a good dog and I can tell he wants to trust me. He gives me play bows and smiles at me all the time but just can’t seem to take the extra step forward to come up to me.
