Just this side of Heaven is a place called RainbowBridge
When an animal dies - one that has been especially close to someone here - that pet goes to RainbowBridge. There are meadows and hills for our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food and water, sunshine and cozy beds, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing: they each miss someone very special, someone who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; his eager body quivers. Suddenly, he breaks from the group, flying over the green grass - his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain on your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet - so long gone but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross the RainbowBridge together.

Hans
Hans came to us just after the 4th of July 2009. At the start I wasn’t completely sure about Hans, nor did he seem sure of us. We brought him home with us, and for the first couple of weeks he was pretty aloof. Gradually, he warmed to us as he realized he was staying, and slowly he worked his way deeply into our hearts. He was always a kind, gentle, quiet presence. He and I became very good friends, to the point that he would sulk when I was out of town. He has left a very large hole in our hearts and an emptiness in our home. He has left an indelible mark on me and I will always remember him.

Butchie
Mr. Butchie, what a noble and silly best friend. Even though you came to us after some difficult times, you were the sweetest and gentlest boy ever – you loved everyone, especially ladies. In fact, Buttercup, or Tank, would have been perfect names for you, too. You would get where you wanted to be, then cast those big brown eyes back at us, with just a teeny glimmer of guilt. And at playtime, you went for your jolly ball and galloped around, usually ending up through our legs as if we were a croquet wicket. In your elder wisdom, you knew the best things were a comfy couch and lap, daily walks in the sunshine complete with deer and turkey droppings, car rides with an open window to bark at joggers or bicyclists, good food, and plenty of treats and hugs. In fact, if you were busy smelling important smells, just calling “Treat” or “Dinner” brought you moving your fastest toward us. Oh Butchie, how can we say “good bye” once we’ve known your loyalty, love, good natured humor and fierce protectiveness? We can’t and we won’t. Until we meet again Butchie boo, we keep you close in our hearts.
