Just this side of Heaven is a place called RainbowBridge

When an animal dies - one that has been especially close to someone here - that pet goes to RainbowBridge. There are meadows and hills for our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food and water, sunshine and cozy beds, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing: they each miss someone very special, someone who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; his eager body quivers. Suddenly, he breaks from the group, flying over the green grass - his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain on your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet - so long gone but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross the
RainbowBridge together.

Buddy
Buddy loved his walks, laying in the garden and belly rubs. He was a great companion as well as a goof that brightened everyone's day. He was a comfort to my husband who suffers from PTSD. He is missed dearly by all that were blessed enough to know him. We love you Buddy.

Emma
A lonely old man and a lonely old dog who had never known love---a match made in heaven. Emma came to my dad about 4 years ago after he lost his rescued dog, Millie. Emma was very, very special to my dad. Once when we took her to the vet for a check-up he told me, “I’m so glad she’s ok, I just dreaded this in case something was wrong with her. I don’t know what I’d do if I ever lost her”. When the bad news came that Emma had osteosarcoma, he didn’t blink an eye before agreeing to take her to the pre-eminent CSU Vet Teaching Hospital in Fort Collins. Unfortunately, even after radiation and three rounds of chemotherapy to stop any metastasis, it was not meant to be. Emma was his best friend. She greeted him at the door every time he came home, she sat with him at night while he watched tv, she went outside with him in the summer to play “water hose”. She would bark ferociously to protect her dad if someone came close to the yard or the porch, even though everyone who knew her knew she was a big love. She even went to his local watering hole with him on occasion while he had a beer. One of my Big Sky pups, Finnegan, had a huge crush on her, and she tolerated him even though we knew she didn’t welcome all the kisses he gave her; she was his “cougar”. She had a smile that could touch any heart. We all adored her and our hearts are broken. She was our “duck butt” and our “Divine Miss Em”. There will never be another dog like her. We are so very thankful to Kathy and Joe and Cheryl for saving our sweet girl for us for the precious time we had with her.

Jerome
I saw a picture of Jerome on The Big Sky site and something resonated. But while my husband and I were talking Jerome (aka Capone) went from available to adoption pending - then available, pending, available again. I finally wrote to see what was going on and was told it was not the dog, but the people were changing their minds. So, I thought it must be a sign and we immediately filled out the application and on a cold Dec. 7, 2008, drove up to Laramie, Wyoming - Kathy Hooper drove him down from Riverton to meet us. We had a wonderful 6 years, 7+ months with him, until he left for the Rainbow Bridge on August 24, 2015. He was perfect for us - an absolutely perfect match. He was our gentle giant, an exceptional Rottweiler - and that is saying something, as all Rottie lovers know. He always wanted to be with his family and he always tried to please us - all the way up to the end, even though we know he was in stress and pain. He was, as a friend of ours said, "one in a million". My husband and I miss him terribly - he leaves a huge hole in our hearts and a huge void in our lives at his passing.

Lilly
We first met Lilly at the Riverton, law office where Kathy Hooper, a Big Sky Rottweiler Rescue foster was taking care of her. Kim and I immediately knew that Lilly was a great companion for us. We continued on the the Oregon coast, one of two trips that Lilly made with us. She loved the outdoors and sunning herself on the deck. In our neighborhood, everyone knew Lilly, she was a great ambassador for the breed, Lilly won over many who thought rottweilers were as shown on tv. She developed osteosarcoma, which is common for rottweilers and was suffering. On Monday, August 31, 2015, we helped Lilly to the bridge and look forward to seeing her again.

Kaiser
Kaiser, We loved you before we met you; and we loved you even more after that. Your first four years before us were very difficult. When we adopted you, you were scared of everything. I remember the weekend we brought you home; you leaned down to sniff a pipe and your tags bumped into it, startling you so much you squealed and shook and hid behind my legs. In the four months we had you, you helped us to appreciate the simpler, quieter things in life like a nice walk and napping in the sunshine in the back yard, cuddling in my lap. It breaks our hearts that our time with you was so short and we can’t wait to be with you again -emotionally healed- across the rainbow bridge. Kaiser May 28, 2011-August 14, 2015 We love you, Karen and Daryl
